SELF BEYOND SELF

Dreaming Spirit traveling at the Speed of Consciousness
Dreaming of Self Beyond Self

Not much has been written about Self. Funny, I just had this Dream. Sow I’ll share this Self Beyond Self Experience.

Self Beyond Self

A Personal Experience:
Finishing up the reread and rewrite of the Three Attentions of Human Kind when I felt this uncontrollable urge to close my eyes. That’s when the Self Beyond Self revealed itself.

I could barely keep my eyes open, sow I went to nap.

I woke up about 2:30 am that morning started to rewrite the Three Attentions to update the post….it was a few years old. Things have changed within my consciousness since then.

I remember getting up, going to the bedroom about 12:30 PM that afternoon, laid down on the bed, got into the sleeping position, then drifted off to sleep. I remember dreaming, however the dream at this time is unimportant. After dreaming I woke up and moved into the living room. Karen was relaxxing in her chair, she asked,, how was my nap?

I shared….. I dreamed!, we talked for awhile. She was watching a program on her computer. Sow I fired up my computer started watching Star Teck Voyager….. That’s when the Self Beyond Self slapped me upside the head.

In that instant… I woke up face down in my bed again. I came out of the bedroom again and found the time to be around 2:30 PM. Karen was sitting in her chair and again ask me how was my nap?

I felt dazed… Probably because of the blow to my head. I told her I was dreaming, I was awake. She smiled at me, then continued watching her program. She knows me to well. Or, doesn’t want to know me that well!

I was set back, I sat down to recapitulate the experience………… Was I Dreaming I was awake, or awake dreaming….? Did I just time travel?

SEEING the first self Dream the second self while the third self was fast asleep.

One way of seeing this is the third self had dreamed the other two. There is a third option as well, the other two dreamed the one. I don’t remember waking up the third time.

Maybe to date…………. I haven’t, except to write this…. Self Beyond Self, It might have something to do with the Three Attentions rewrite!

Self Beyond Self Beyond Self

The path less traveled is on the Totality of Human Consciousness trying to comprehend its self. The masters have shared their insights, and stated that the self is the gateway beyond the thinking mind which leads to pure acceptance, tranquility, and ultimately pure awareness.

In essence, the conscious human mind always has to make up a story or narrative about everything, or a Reason for the Reason. The paradox is…… that to tame our mind we must use our mind, at the very least, have a mind…

However, at the same time awareness does not exist in the realm of the mind alone. It can be witnessed, experienced, and rested regardless of the state of conditioning our every day mind experiences. Awareness includes all the senses.

There is a tendency for a personality to define itself according to its attachments our descriptions and definitions. These holding patterns become the minefield that exists in the self. Watch your step. YEP! WHO needs SELF?

The Meaning of "You"
Self needs Self

Each self based attachment is holding on to self ideas, descriptions, definitions, beliefs, feelings, emotions, experiences forms a personality that filters the Flow of Consciousness, feelings manifesting as separations. Every emotion experienced is a movement of a once stagnant energy from a holding pattern, the reaction of Self, stuck in self the personality of Self?

The base instincts that were learned about in evolutionary psychology then runs our lives. They all involve looking outside our selves for our survival, to get our perceived needs met. However there is a cost.

The cost of leaving the Self behind. AHHH! but which S–elf would you leave behind?

Looking Back
I see a reflection. If it wasn’t for the reflection self would see anything at All?

The Recapitulation
Which Self is asking the Questions?

Seek ye First the Kingdom of Heaven

For thousands of years human beings have searched for the state which is beyond time, beyond sorrow, beyond the isolation of the “self”. All religions describe such a state. In the Christian Bible, St Paul writes “I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me” The earliest Islamic poet of Iran, writes “I passed away into nothingness, I vanished; And lo, I am the All-living – only God I saw.” The Hindu saint Paramahansa Yogananda explained “When one is illumined, he sees himself as the one Spirit throbbing beneath all minds and bodies.” The Taoist teacher Huai Nan Tzu says “Those who follow the Natural order flow in the current of the Tao.” In the Buddhist text it is explained that the feeling of “I am” has no corresponding reality, and that when this truth is understood then the state of nirvana is attained.

Self Beyond Self, has shown The Illusion self maintains, thus consequently how it comes to an end. Which leads immediately to the experience of that which is Self Beyond Self.

The essence of my life
I Am only being myself

A Definition of Self

“Self” is a process which we call “owning”, “appropriating”, or “identifying”. As William James said, The I… is a Thought, at each moment different from that of the last moment of thought, the self with the self called its own thought.

Information flows into our neurology via the five senses from outside, from other organs in our neurology, also as part of the non-sensory connections between self and all life.

There’s a very simple mechanism by which, from moment to moment, our reason divides this information into two sets. I see the door,,, and I think i see the door,,, in essence “not-me” Or, I have the ability to read this article and comprehend it, and I think again “me”, (again, I appropriate, or own it; I identify with it).

Therefore, are all these pieces of information in one mind? The notion of self and non-self is an arbitrary division; A meta-program or internal matching or mismatching. This division may be useful metaphorically, allegorically, or anagogically. However it is a division which has “taken over” and now thinks it runs the show. Where’s that sixth sense when you need it?

Like in many meta-program owning experiences as Self Beyond Self, “me” and the disowning of experiences as “not me” occurs unconsciously, however is consciously active. The whole notion of the logic we usually think depends on appropriating, or owning one sensory experience, One after another in a sequence.

The Voice of Knowledge is Playing with Reality
Are we just blowing Bubbles?

Self Beyond Self offers an array of sensory experiences available at this every moment. Thus, the meta-program of owning selects one section at a time as “mine”. For example, if “I” am first holding a book, then “I” am looking at the words, then “I” am thinking the words to myself, then “I” am making pictures of the meaning. Those pictures tell “me” stories.

When actually, ALL of our senses are functioning all of the time, however conscious attention is shifting from one sense to another as the sense of “I”/SELF appropriates and then identifies with each sense in turn.

The essence of life. YOU!
NOW is the time to Change a belief, thus change, The Meaning of “You”

Attention is not Self

When thought identifies itself with sensation, it becomes the ‘me’… To observe with all senses there can be no identification. The question is, can you look/see with all your senses awakened?…

When there is movement of thought, when there is one sense operating. Can I sense if there is a different dimension, parallel reality, or another time for that matter? Perhaps a state where self as we know it ceases..?

It’s only possible when the sensory identification with thought of self is comprehended. Then the senses do not produce the psychological structure, as the “me, itself, and I Self”. Sow by simply being aware of all the senses at once puts an end to the process of owning/identifying, experiencing the Self Beyond Self’

Do YOU SEE it? One Self is different!

Many students of “meditation” caught in meditation often assume that the ending of thought is the prerequisite for experiencing a state of Inner Silence. The common idea is that in order to reach this state one must empty the mind of all thoughts and ideas. This is in fact true, however the desired end cannot be achieved by consciously attempting to think about not thinking, or thinking of thinking nothing… Similarly, if I tell a friend not to think of a red monkey, or pink elephant, that animal immediately leaps into their mind to prove my point.

Pink Elephant
See!!!

One solution to this dilemma has been to take the three attentions which has been wandering down various paths, and hold them in one sensory system, (in Zen this is done by concentrating on the breath). This leads to concentration, but not to awareness. It focuses the sense of self on self, but does not end it.

The Source Field and the Energy Body
We stand before our Destiny. All we need is our Self to get out of bed.

Meditation of the Self

I was interested in so-called meditation, however my thoughts get distracted, sow I fix my mind on a picture, an image, a color, or an idea, and exclude all other thoughts…

Such concentration is not meditation, it is merely exclusion…

One who is fully aware is meditating… Then you can follow, without condemnation or justification, [owning or disowning], every movement of thought and feeling, by following every thought and every feeling as it arises brings about tranquility which is not compelled, not regimented, not forced, which is the outcome of having no problems, no contradictions. It is like the pool that becomes peaceful, quiet, in the evening when there is no wind, when the mind is still, then that which is immeasurable comes into being.

Meditation simply means to me the simultaneous awakening of all the senses. When one is attending all their senses, one is completely awake. It is not one sense attending, but the totality of all the senses attending. Otherwise you cannot attend.

Complete sensory activity is a state of attention. Partial sensory activity leads to concentration… However can one see completely with all the senses? See not with the eyes alone, but with the ears to listen, the tongue to taste, the fingers to touch, the nose to smell…

Creation
I stand with the Creator

Watch yourself one day. Look at the sunlight and see whether you see it with all your senses, completely awake, completely free. Which leads to an interesting knowing. Where there is disharmony, there is the self.

Attention is complete harmony with ALL. There is a great volume of energy gathered in harmony. It is like the Amazon River. “Attention is a flow/movement through eternity.”

When Buddha was asked “Are you a God?”, he said “No!” When he was then asked, “Are you a man?” he again answered “No!” When the speaker finally asked him “Then what are you?”, he replied… “I am AWAKE!”

The Source Field and The Mastery of Awareness
What a great Dream we have created together. We are the reflection of the Self within

Self Beyond Self, A Meditation Exercise

Exercise One: Differentiating The Senses
In order to awaken the senses, one must first be able to differentiate which sense modality is active. It has been known for some time that when a person trained in music listens to an orchestra, a different area of their brain is activated. Identifying the musical instruments often using thinking constructs instead of hearing.

When a person listens to a language, a different area of the brain is used than when they don’t listen to one. Can you see a tree without the operation of thought, without the image of the tree? …The image being the thought that says: I AM an oak, an Elm, or a Pine. In observing a tree what takes place? There is the space between the observer and the tree, there is distance; then there is the botanical knowledge, the like or dislike of that tree. I have an image of a tree, is there a Visual construct where that image of Self looks at the tree?… Is there an observation without the interference of thought, without the interference of any image?

You will find,,, it’s not a question of just accepting or believing. Listen to hear if you name the tree, and then stop naming it, look at it, listen to it without knowing intellectually what it is, without comparing it to other images internally.

Exercise Two: Awakening The Senses
Take a moment now to actually see the tree in front of you. Don’t name it as “tree” or you’ll end up talking to yourself about attention (ie keep the senses clearly differentiated). Instead, just see the shape of the tree. Expand your vision out, so that while seeing the tree you are also seeing all else in your visual field.

Now hear the sounds around you as you hear the tree in the wind. Now add the tastes in your mouth, and the smells in your nose, and the feelings of your body, both inside and on the skin. Continue seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, feeling. Allow all the senses to be awake at one time. As soon as you notice that, attention is there again, allow all the senses to reawaken. There is no need to attempt to keep attention “constant”.

Each time, your senses awaken, the illusion of the self disappears. As this is not a form of concentration, it need not be done in a certain posture. This exercise can be done throughout daily life, whenever one notices its absence. Do not treat it as a task. You cannot watch from morning till night. You cannot be vigilant, never blinking for the whole day. So play with it. Play with it lightly.

Awareness is being aware of the body your in
Awareness is being aware

Dealing With Unpleasant States

One of the first challenges of Awakening the Senses, is that of unpleasant states. The temptation is to shift the attention away from these, thus begin the whole process of “disowning” or excluding them, from self.

An interesting model of how people maintain negative internal states. Held that painful states persist because the person has built an energetic barrier around the unpleasant states, preventing them from “flowering” in a natural way, and dying like any flower, so that the next state emerges. The self actually causes suffering! It is only when thought flowers that it can naturally die. Like the flower in a garden, thought must blossom, it must come to fruition, and then it dies.

We could do this, for example, with the thought of greed. We could do this with a rising of fear. We can keep on saying, “And then what arises? And then what arises?” so that you start observing, “what is”, as it arises. You also observed, “what should be” as it arises in thought, so that one is awake in that instant of “what is”.

To say that jealousy is the cause of attachment is mere verbalization. Therefore, in actually allowing jealousy to flower, the fact that you are attached to something becomes a fact, an emotional fact, not an intellectual verbal idea. Thus each flowering reveals what you have not been able to discover; and as each fact unveils itself, it flowers and you watch it. You let the flower opens other doors, til there is no flowering at all of any kind, therefore, no cause or self of any kind.

Exercise Three: Ascending States
Identify an emotional state which self may have resisted, thus is prevented from flowering. Be aware allow it to flower, as if you were watching a flower rise up and die down again.

Choices the Seed of Man
Growing the SEEDS of TRUTH

Now ask yourself, “What arises from underneath that flower?”

Be aware of the next state as it too flowers and dies down, check again, what arises. Continue until you have come to a state where there is no new distress which arises; until there is the pure grounding of awareness again. At this point, people tend to report an extraordinary feeling of joy, of love, of oneness with whatever is the Self Beyond Self.

Deep Layers Of Mind

A second challenge which may arise as a person continues to experiment with awakening the senses is that the self may learn how to go “underground”, and attention turns back into undifferentiated introspection.

Everybody gets into this trouble, looking at everything, saying, “Those are my problems, I am looking at. However looking is only thinking, confused with looking … that means the operation of thought is unconscious for the most part, therefore one doesn’t know it is going on. We may say consciously, we have realized that all this has to change, it has to be different.

Sow can you talk to my unconscious, knowing my brain is going to resist you? Because you are telling me something which is revolutionary, you are telling me something which shatters my whole house I have built so careful, I won’t listen to you. I push you away.

Sow I realize and say, “Look, all right, old friend, just don’t bother to listen to me. I am going to talk to your unconscious. I am going to talk to your unconscious and make that unconscious SEE … That not all this verbalization changes me… to reach the unconscious one has to have an action which doesn’t directly appeal to the conscious.

What is needed is a radical change in the unconscious. Any conscious action of the will cannot touch the unconscious. As self will cannot touch the self”s pursuits, wants, urges, the conscious mind must subside, be still, and not try to force the unconscious, according to any particular pattern of action.

The unconscious has its own pattern of action, its own frame within which it functions. This frame cannot be broken by any outward action, will is an outward act. If this is really seen and comprehended, the outward mind is still, because there is no resistance set up by will, one will find that the so called unconscious begins to free itself from its own limitations. Then only is there a radical transformation in the total being of man.

Human Consciousness
Given one more chance to get it right. One more chance to find Spirit

If the self operates both consciously and “unconsciously” then to end the process of the self requires an action at the unconscious level. This deeper action is called love. Love comes upon one when one suddenly discovers the beauty of a sunset, or a symphony, or a gentle touch. “There is beauty only when ones heart and mind knows what love is. Without love and that sense of beauty there is no virtue.

Do what you will, improve society, feed the poor, you will only be creating more mischief, for without Love there is only ugliness and poverty in your own heart and mind. However when there is love, and beauty, whatever you do is right, whatever you do is in order. If you know how to love, it will solve all other problems.

Swans showing the sign of love
In the Reflection of Self We See The spirit of Love

So we reach this point: Can the mind come upon love without discipline, without thought, without enforcement, without any book, any teacher or leader? Come upon it as one comes upon a lovely sunset.

So what do you do? If you don’t know what to do, do nothing, absolutely nothing. Then inwardly you are completely silent. Do you understand what this means? It means that you are not seeking, not wanting, not pursuing, when there is no center at all. Then there is love.

Exercise Four: Unconscious Transformation
Self Beyond Self is designed to awaken this unconscious movement. This process has already begun, because the first step is the last. There is no path to enlightenment.

There is only a single act, to awaken! As you read these words, the act has already taken place. It may not yet be continuous, then nothing is continuous. There is only this moment, and in this moment you can see, hear, feel, smell, and taste the life that is.

That is all.

Love, may be the answer to all our problems. However to find love, the “me” that wants to find it must be still. Where you are, the other is not! Yet that other is the source of all that has been beautiful in your life, of all happiness, of all meaning. It is for the other that we live. The meta-program of the self is constantly seeking continuity, through “owning” both experiences and things, and through this owning, one hopes to possess joy, love, beauty, and truth, the Self Beyond Self.

Bear Medicine

Bear Medicine the Power of Introspection, an offering to the Eagle.

Bear waving Hello
Bear Medicine says Hello. Gimmie Five!

Bear Medicine is powerful medicine, bringing healing, renewal, and rebirth. This is the gift that Grandmother Bear brings those who live with Bear Medicine.

Leonardo da Vinci Drawing
It could just as easily been a Bear in the Boat. Maybe Bears of old had horns. And that’s no Bull.

Bear Medicine is the power associated with the spirit of the bear, particularly the bears ability to heal, is known in virtually all cultures within the bear’s range. The bear is known to seek plants for its own healing. North American brown bears are known to dig up Ligusticum porteri, not surprisingly known as, “bear root”. The plant is known to have antibiotic properties, being good for stomach aches, and repelling insects. Now that’s Bear Medicine Medicine, if you know what I mean! They chew on it and then rub it on their fur. For that feel good feeling.

Black bear eating berries
Bear Medicine, Medicine, Good stuff.

The Alaskan brown bears are known to chew on sedge to rid themselves of tapeworm and parasites before hibernating. The common names for other plants in the Bear Medicine medical pack reflect Bear’s usage. Like Bearberry, bear’s paw, bear tongue, bear clover, just to name a few.

Bear Medicine teaches us introspection, aiding us to digest our experiences, to discover within ourselves is the answers to all our questions. When we slow down and listen to what our intuition, our inner knowing voice tells us. We all have Bear packs of wisdom in Silent Knowledge. It becomes useful for us to go within our self at times. Able to uncover our own answers to whatever challenges we are facing, allowing us to be ourselves. However, just like Bear one needs to know when to come out of ‘hibernation’ and to interact with the world around them.

Bear awakes early
Man, I thought it was Spring. I just had this wonderful Dream!

Bear… Invite me. Entice me, into the cave.
Where Silence surrounds through winter days.
I sleep in the cave. Like it’s my grave.

To be born again on a spring day. Exploring new life with the answers you gave.

Bear Medicine.

The Bear Medicine is always a good sign and has special powers. As Bear represents wisdom, insight, introspection, protection, and healing. When you see a Bear while hiking in the woods or along the river, know that a very sacred place is nearby and the spirits of that area are checking you out. Respect the Bear, don’t intimidate it, pray and give thanks, then make a special wish.

Because of Bears size and temperament they can be dangerous. As Mother Bear will protect her cubs. If Bear comes to your house or around the camp in late fall looking for food, it is a sign that a harsh winter is coming early.

Hibernation reflects immortality, the power of healing, the ability to lead with discernment, with confidence, and the ability to draw on one’s courage. Bear will teach you that balance, harmony, centering of the mind, body, and Spirit to control of your emotions. Where we stop Feeding the Beast. As heart is in the center of our being. Using our emotions as triggers, draws ones attention to the important issues. Allowing one to feel these emotions as one takes the time to reflect with greater clarity the moment at hand. This is achieved by awakening the Heartmind of Spirit and our Spiritual instincts.

Since Bear Medicine also represents maternal love, patience, nurturing, healing, balance, harmony, cycles of death and rebirth, discernment, wisdom, strength, protection, defense, dreams, intuition, and introspection, plus the psychic powers the shaman uses to journey into other worlds. Bear Medicine is Mother Earth energy, exemplifying a gentle and often playful nurturance accompanied by a healing love. Bears haven is the womb of Mother Earth and Bear Medicine will teach one to enter into Inner Silence to face the smoking mirror of reflection. These inner reflections one sees will show one their true self (Spirit), with all its weaknesses and strengths. Learning to seek the Inner Silence, to see with clarity the inner truth of all worldly affairs, (Illusion) going into the heart of them swiftly. Learning to react and draw from ones inner courage and strength to sustain them, thus gain control of their life as they walk the path with Heart, doing this with the gentle love of Spirit.

Polar Bear Cub
Won’t you help me. I love my life.

For this reason, the gift of Bear Medicine is mastered over many lifetimes and reaches full potential when ones Spirit has reached a significant level of growth and maturity. Their Spirit will burst forth, as the Life-giving rays of the sun herald a new day, touching all with its golden brilliance, as one is born again. Then, the Grizzly Bear Medicine Spirit will remember the Ancient Knowledge and wield the Light of Eternal Energy to benefit all who dwell above, upon or within the Earth Mother as ones Spirit walks in harmony beside their Ancestors, hearing the whispered Wisdom of the Sky Nation, along the High Red Road of physical Spiritual Life.

Bears last stand
Come on People. I am running out of room here.

As the guardian of the Dream Lodge, Bear Medicine will teach one to trust, and work within, their dreams. Awaking in their Dreams. As Bear is the Keeper of Prophecy and Vision. When Bear comes, Bear speaks of deep truths that cannot be ignored.

Bear Medicine shows one how to know self and to be true to that knowing. Bear Medicine is the teacher of deep psychic abilities that lead to shamanic journeys and the projection of ones inner spirit. Bear will show the secret of going within to achieve levels of trance that lead to the sacred dimensions. These dimensions are doors to other realms. Bear will show one the ability to project their Spirit into them and walk the path of higher purpose.

Bear Medicine Introspection, the Art of looking within.

The strength of Bear Medicine is the power of introspection. It lies in the West on the great medicine wheel of life. Bear seeks honey, or the sweetness of truth, within the hollow of an old Tree of Knowledge. In the winter, when the Ice Queen reigns and the face of death is upon the Earth, Bear enters the womb/cave to hibernate, to digest the fat of the year’s experience. It is said that our goals reside in the West. To accomplish the goals and dreams that we carry, the art of introspection is necessary.

Bear Medicine Wheel of Life
The Medicine Wheel of Life. We all must face the Directions. Our Life presents the Challenge.

To become like Bear an enter the safety of the womb/cave, we must attune ourselves to the energies of the Eternal Earth Mother, and receive nourishment from the placenta of the Great Void. The Great Void is the place where all solutions and answers live in harmony with the questions that fill our realities. If we choose to believe that there are many unanswered questions to life, we must also believe that the answers to these questions live within us. Each and every being has the capacity to quiet the mind, enter the silence, and know the answers of the Great Spirit.

Many tribes have called this space of inner-knowing the place of Silent Knowledge of the Dream Lodge, where the terrifying death of the illusion of physical reality overlays on the wonder of the expansiveness of eternity. It is in the Dream Lodge that our ancestors sit in Council and advise us regarding alternative pathways that lead to our goals. This is the Power of Bear Medicine.

Bear in water barrel
Ah, that’s better. All I need is a Bear Beer. This wheel could be a little bigger.

The female receptive energy that for centuries has allowed visionaries, mystics, and shamans to prophesy is contained in this very special Bear energy. In India, the cave symbolizes the cave of Brahma. Brahma’s cave is considered to be the pineal gland that sits in the center of the four lobes of the brain. If one were to imagine an overview of the head, the top of it would be a circle. The South would be the forehead, the North the back of the skull, the West would be the right brain, and the East the left brain.

Bear is in the West, the intuitive side, the right brain. Where it is to hibernate, Bear travels to the cave, which is the center of the four lobes where the pineal gland resides. In the cave, Bear seeks answers/vision while Bear is dreaming or hibernating. Bear is then reborn in the spring, like the opening of spring flowers.

We all bear fruit. Did you like that play on words?

All seekers of the Dreamtime and of visions, have walked the path of silence, calming the internal dialogue, reaching their place of rites of passage, the Third Eye or pineal gland is the place of inner vision. From the cave of Bear, you find the pathway to the Dream Lodge and the other levels of imagination or consciousness. In choosing Bear Medicine, the power of knowing has invited you to enter the silence and become acquainted with the Dream Lodge, so that your goals may become concrete realities. This is the strength of Bear Medicine.

Third Eye
The Third eye. See into other worlds.

Contrary Bear Medicine

If you find Bear in a tree, Bear Medicine is reversed, your internal dialogue may have confused your perception of your true goals. In seeking answers or advice from others, you may have placed your own feelings and knowing aside. The time has come to regain your authority, for no one knows better than yourself what is proper and timely for your evolution. Follow your Heart. Reclaim the power of knowing. Find joy in the silence and richness of the mother’s womb. Allow the thoughts of confusion to be laid to rest as clarity emerges from the West, nurturing your dreams as the Earth Mother nourishes us all.

Bear Medicine in the contrary position is teaching that only through being our own advisor can we attain our true goals. Using our death as our advisor, one makes very act count. Anything less than the doing, that which gives one the most joy is denial. To achieve happiness one must know thyself. To know thyself is to know our body, our mind, and our Spirit. Using our strengths to overcome our weaknesses and know that both are necessary in the evolution of you. As Light and Dark need each other for their own reflection. Where they meet in the shadows of not doing.

Shadow Play
Shadow play. The Essence of Light and Darkness. They need each other.

Journey with Bear to the quietness of your cave and hibernate in silence. Dream your dreams and own them. Then in strength be ready to discover the honey waiting in the Tree of Life. Open the gateway to the Garden of your Dreams and walk on in. On four legs or two as bear can walk either way.

Bear Medicine Facts

Signs in the Heavens
It’s shaped like a cup to hold the essence of life.

The bear is a powerful symbol and image in both myth and lore. Stories about individuals that turned into bears, and bears into humans, and bears as gods. Has stirred imagination so much that even a constellation was named in honor of Bear, Yep, Ursus Major, The Great Bear. Seven stars of this constellation are probably the most easily recognized in the northern hemisphere. These seven stars form The Big Dipper, and they link to the seven great rays of light to the Divine. As they point the way to the North Star.

Big Dipper point to North Star
Here this should help you find your way back home.

The Bear has lunar symbology as well, giving it ties to the subconscious and the unconscious mind. It is an animal associated with the goddess Diana, a goddess of the moon. It is also a symbol for alchemy, the nigredo of prime matter. It relates to all initial stages and primal instincts. Creation its Self.

Like birds, the Bear is often considered among native American people’s as kin to humans because, like birds, Bear can stand and walk upon two legs. For many, the bear and the wolf are the last true symbols of the primal, natural world, and many ecologists believe. That how humans respond and protect their lands and their future, will be the most honest depiction of how serious humanity is about preservation of the environment and the natural resources within it. Humanity is at the crossroads. One path leads to destruction. The other is the path to life beyond life. Don’t be mislead by the signs of the times. As somebody as turned the signs to face the direction of Darkness. To lead those away from their destiny. Follow your Heart it knows the way back home.

Dream Traveler shared some Magic
We are Magical in our Dreams. Powerful in our Hearts. We don’t have to choose one or the other. We have them both. Find your way home. Enjoy!

The Bear is the largest of the carnivores, but will eat almost anything. It is omnivorous, eating both plants, fruits, and meat. It actually eats less meat than many smaller carnivores, such as the fox or coyote.

Contrary to popular belief, Bears do not truly hibernate. They Sleep. During the winter they live to a great degree on their stored-up fat. Their body temperature will drop around 13 degrees, and their breathing rate can be cut in half. The depth of their sleep depends greatly upon the amount of fat stored.

This reflects the Bear’s ability to teach those with this totem to go within to find the resources necessary for survival. The Bear teaches one to draw upon all of our inner stores of energy and essence which have never been tapped or accessed by their Spirit. Meditating and working with Bear Medicine will help one to go within their Spirit’s den into their inner sanctum of Heart, to find the answers their Reason seeks. As Reason has no answers, it only has questions.

Turkey Bear
What the heck? Does that Bear have feathers?

During the winter sleep the Black Bear’s kidneys shut down completely, and scientists are studying this activity, hoping it will offer clues to more successful kidney transplants. Physicians would love to find a way to duplicate this in humans so diseased kidneys would have time to heal. This is part of what Bear Medicine is about. But science must first study Spirit to find the answers.

The kidneys serve a vital function in the body, excreting urine, and filtering the blood plasma. Metaphysically, the kidneys are symbols of discernment and discrimination. If Bear Medicine has shown up in your life, ask yourself these important questions. Is your judgement off? How about those around you? Are you not recognizing what is beneficial to your life? Are you not seeing the core of goodness deep within all situations? Are you being too critical of yourself or others? Are you wearing rose-colored glasses? Am I living only in Reason and without Heart? Am I following my path with Heart?

Lazy Bears
Sweet Heart, that was a Great meal. How did you cook that Seal? Burrrrrp! Where’s the remote?

Bear Medicine can teach you to go deep within so that you can make choices and decisions from a place of power. Using Heart over mind. Thus putting them in the Divine order. As we only have decisions in the face of our death. As we recapitulate our life in the womb of Mother Earth we can offer this reflection up to the Eagle as food. As it eats our offering we can dart pass the Eagle to be free. This is the swiftness of Bear Medicine.

All bears are astonishingly swift. The Black Bear and grizzly can reach running speeds of 35-40mph for short distances. All bears, including the polar Bears, can climb. Only the size of the tree will discourage the climbing. Bears are often associated with trees. Nature programs love to photograph Bear cubs high up in trees or even adults scratching themselves against them. There are even “Bear trees,” trees marked with claws as signposts along the well-worn and traveled path of a particular Bear. This is how one knows the way back home. As Bear Medicine has marked the way. This is the Wisdom of Bear Medicine.

Look for the Signs. They are everywhere. If one knows what to look for.

I Love trees. I use them a lot in my writings as signs. The tree is a powerful and ancient symbol, just like the Bear. It is a natural antenna, linking the Heavens and the Earth. Different trees do have different meanings, but in general, it represents knowledge. It is a symbol of fertility, of things that grow. As man and trees are closely a lined. We both feed each other though our breath. Using our breath is how we recapitulate. This Introspection is the insight of Bear Medicine. And through it we find freedom.

Bear Sign, Bear Medicine
Can you read it? It says, this way home. Bear Medicine marks the way!

Bear Medicine teaches one to go in and awaken the potentials inherent, the tree serves as a reminder that we must bring what we awaken out into the world and apply it, have it grow in the light. Using Bear Medicine to make our marks on life. As everyone with Bear Medicine should keep their inner cub alive and occasionally climb trees, if only to get a clear perspective. As one enters into the trees aura the tree will talk to you and secrets will be reveled.

For those with Bear Medicine as a totem, it is important to remember, not to hide away and try to hibernate all year-round. You must come out of the den. This is reflected in the birthing process of Bears. Female Bears give birth during their heavy sleep, semi-hibernation stages.

Usually two cubs are born, sometimes three. They are born helpless and semi-conscious. The cubs nurse in the safety and warmth of the den throughout the winter. As spring approaches, the mother Bear and her cubs will emerge. The cubs have become strong enough to follow their mother. This is tremendously significant for those working with Bear Medicine. As it reflects a need to go deep within oneself, to have periods in our life when we can be more reclusive. Then emerge in full strength.

Bear Directions
I think the path is that way. No I smell it that way. Guys I feel it’s that way. How do we get down from here?

During these times, we go within and give birth to two or three new ideas or projects. They can be nursed through the winter, and then as spring approaches, emerge with our babies to help them grow.

The Bear is so highly revered as a totem animal that many Medicine priests have adopted “Bear” as a part of their name. I am known as Barenaked. LOL You can call me that, but I won’t come running. Running Bear, I wonder if he was cold?

According to some tribes, the Spirit of the Bear never dies, and thus has become synonymous with supernatural powers and the ability to heal. Among nearly all shamans, the bear is reverently addressed as “Grandfather.” The Bear was a totemic symbol for St. Gall and St. Seraphim. In the Native American zodiac, those born from August 22 to September 22 are in the Medicine Wheel sign of the Bear. Bear people are said to be slow, cautious, and quiet. To have the Bear as your totem animal is to be aware that you are being guided to assume a role of leadership. Your Spiritual guardian will also encourage you to exercise your abilities as a natural healer. You may be placed in a position in which to defend your beliefs in a firm and fearless manner, but your Bear totem will give you the insight and powers of discrimination/discernment, and the strength to present the truths of your life-path with confidence and courage. Follow your Bear totem guide, and you will be led to greater balance in body, mind and Spirit.

Running Bear
Hey wait for me. Bear Medicine on the move.

The essence of Bear teaches us how to dream what is desired into our physical reality reflection. Of all the species, Humans probably spend more time acting and doing than listening and being, often much to our detriment. We do not shape shift our reality through constant thought, or inappropriate actions but through the focused emotions of the Heart, the reason of the mind, and the power of Spirit. The Spirit or Higher Self speaks to us through our emotions, when we feel good and uplifted we know we are on the right path, taking the right actions because our Spirit is sending us the emotions that this feels good. The Spirit always seeks Pleasure, Love and Joy, never strife, pain or struggle. When we feel ill at ease, in pain or stuck down. Be aware our Spirit is saying, “There is a better way”. Slow our breath, use introspection, and slow our activity down long enough to hear what your Spirit saying. Bear Medicine can teach us how to do this if we explore Bear’s own cycles of being.

This is the powerful energy of the womb/cave, going deep within Mother Earth to renew and heal the self or to send healing to another. Bear Medicine is a powerful ally who offers protection and guidance during stressful situations, to resolve long-standing problems, in which one may feel locked in and can’t find their way out. Bear Medicine teaches us how to be silent and still so that we may receive higher guidance and inspiration. Bear Medicine also teaches us how to meet all of our needs from within so we never have to go without. Through Bear, we learn to use the guidance of Shamans who have walked this path before us and have many gifts to share if we will only receive them.

Here this is for you. Bear Medicine is a sharing of Love. That’s why there are Teddy Bears.

In Bear Medicine, one may also find that they too need to set aside resources to tide them over during the slow cycles of their lives. These resources can be money, food, even time. Bear Medicine can teach us how to use our time more wisely, even how to store it. As we only live in this moment. Cut back on those things that keep us busy, and are not truly productive. If you find you are constantly rushing about and always doing, yet your hopes, dreams and goals never seem to materialize, then it’s time to tune into Bear Medicine and ask for counsel about how to make better use of the time you have. Bears are very focused on doing what they know they need to be doing during the spring, summer and autumn times. As they know winter is coming.

Those who constantly defer the time and energy needed to put into their own needs, goals and dreams in favour of constantly helping others will soon find their energy depleted. I refer to it as drinking from an empty well. As we forget to pray for rain to replenish the well. Seek Frog Medicine in this case.

Sleeping Bear
Don’t just be a bump on a log. Use Bear Medicine in your Dreams. Become Bear

When we don’t follow our own dreams, when we are constantly setting aside the things that bring us happiness, a sense of fulfillment because others always seem to be needing our help, time and attention, we are literally starving ourselves of life energy that our Spirit needs. We are cutting ourselves off from the life force that keeps us alive because we are no longer living for ourselves as we were meant to. Become Hummingbird. Instead of allowing someone else or something else to drain off our life force for their own needs and purposes. We each came to this earth with many wonderful and valuable gifts to share. Each of us has a contribution that only we can make. There will never be another you in this universe. It is in the finding of you, and making that contribution to the world. That allows the life force of the Universe to flow through us freely.

Bear Medicine Won't rub you the wrong way
